Since 2016, the All Access Art Show is one of the most well-anticipated SHOWS for creators and art enthusiasts to COMMUNE in ARTFUL spaces. For the last eight years, they’ve held themed shows premiering the works of emerging artists and designers through art shows and their hub, the All Access Art House. Every show is full of a VARIETY of entertainment from live DJs, dancers, fashion, food trucks, raffles, and other interactive activities for attendees to enjoy. The next All Access Art Show will be hosted at Finn Hall in Downtown, Houston under the theme, “Houston 713” June 12th.
September of 2016 was the beginning of the All Access Art Show altering the algorithm of art in the big city. Founders Malik McGhee, Tajay Byrd, and Jeremy Cann came up with the idea of this extensive art event as a way for creators to have a legit platform to showcase their work while networking with like-minded people. They take great pride in their work and lead with compassion. Many guest of previous events express agreement online that their self-proclaimed statement of being “the most cultural art experience in the city of Houston; Art done Different.” is true. McGhee spoke thoroughly with Voyage Houston in an interview about his background. “I graduated from the Hilton College at the University of Houston in 2014 where I ultimately cultivated my passion for event management and the love for the hospitality industry. I immersed myself in the idea of entrepreneurship and started assisting with planning events, both on and off campus, through various opportunities in conjunction with my formal education from college. After graduating I became a corporate event planner and realized I wanted to do something for myself. That was the moment I decided to put my all into an art show.” Outside of the art show, McGhee and his colleagues host meaningful events through MYEVENTISTHEBOMB, a photobooth company. The events teach artists about the business side of their talent. These events offer guidance in marketing, event planning, brand consulting, and management in the purpose of helping artist grow their individual brand, ultimately flourishing as an independent artist. There are live studio sessions for artists and musicians in an atmosphere that is safe to express themselves while perfecting their work.
In mentioning work, the All Access Art Show also prides themselves as not only being accessible for public entertainment, and artist platforms, but also accessible in the means of fairness. In the art industry, it is common for creators to be charged high entry fees and being expected to give up significant percentages of their sales to the host of the show. However, the All Access Art Show goes against the grain with low entry fees, and allowing artist to keep 100% of their profits.
Tajay Byrd explained this in detail in an interview with Style Magazine. “Many times artist tell us that a lot of the shows they attend, the registration fees or commission percentages are extremely too high. At our shows we understand completely because many of us are artist ourselves. We pride ourselves in being fair and reasonable when it comes to participation fees. Artist get to keep 100% of their profits when their items are sold at the show. As we take pride in our events, we try to keep the quality of the artwork to high standards. Everyone that participates in our shows has proved themselves to be truly passionate about their crafts. Secondly, our network of people that come to our shows are truly lovers of art and creativity. They buy an support like no others I have ever seen. It’s really a beautiful thing to see artist and consumers telling the stories behind their works as they share what inspires them to create. Although we do try, I mean what we are doing at our shows may not directly change the world but the outcome of our events most definitely mean the world to some people.” Through the artist incentive program, artist earn a commission every time a buyer uses their discount code at the checkout line online or in person.
This makes for a greater chance of artists making more profit they deserve for their efforts.
The community-based way of doing business creates personable interactions between the artists and designers that add to the authenticity of each piece being purchased.
The theme for April was “Plants & Nature”. July will be “Houston 713”, and August is planned to be “Sneaker Culture”. You can expect the art, clothing, and entertainment of each event to match the title of the theme unanimously. Last year’s block party and art market was hosted downtown off Main St. with no lack in slabs, food, and drinks. Artists made live murals for onlookers to see massive pieces be completed from blank surfaces. There were tables full of merchandise, even a section with TVs for gamers to compete in a few online games. One of 2023’s themes, Earth Day, had face painting stations, pretty floral arrangements, and performers decked out in full floral costumes to look like huge, living works of art. They love to work with various non-profit organizations, it is easy to partner with them in order to give back in different ways throughout the year. For example, in previous years they’ve worked with Toy Drives during the holidays to help provide gifts to deserving children. The team of All Access Art Show has done so much great work for artists and the community that former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner endorsed them by proclaiming September 16th All Access Art Show Day in 2021. You can catch a glimpses of previous shows online but be sure to understand each show stands out in its own unique way. The common thread between them all being positivity, good energy, and community for all who participate. There are multiple shows throughout the year, it is best to
check them out online to keep up with the lates dates for themed shows and for artists entry requirements. “We are always looking for new talent. Artist can follow our brand on social media to stay updated with our open auditions and Artist + Vendor Registration Calls.
