It’s almost that time again. Apple is gearing up for its latest refresh of its iPhone Operating System. Rumors have been making their way around the internet with mentions of a UI refresh that iPhone users haven’t seen since iOS 7! This past March apple announced WWDC 2024, scheduled June 10th – the 14th. Taking a similar approach to Apple’s Vision Pro. For those who didn’t break the bank to purchase the three thousand dollar headwear, it rocks a clean setup pleasing to the eyes. Opting for circles instead of the iPhone’s squares for its icons, more translucent windows, and smoother animations.
Since Gen AI has been getting a lot of attention, with ChatGPT & Microsoft’s integration of CoPilot across its services and Google’s working efforts to make the Pixel an AI-first phone, Apple is expected to add several AI features to iOS 18. iOS 18 looks to bring “relatively groundbreaking” changes, with significant new features, designs, and a strong focus on AI, according to Mark Gurman. One thing people will notice after updating to iOS 18 is its customizable home screen. Yes. this is a feature that Andriod has had since the beginning of time. Being able to place icons where you want on the screen along with widgets to make your experience with your phone more personal. Again, this is a feature all Android phones have had. We get it. Apparently more features are coming to be able to do more with your home screen but details are scarce right now. We know when Apple FINALLY does something they don’t just do it the way it’s been done, they put their own Apple spin on it. So we will see what else is to come.
One of the features that really has iPhone users excited is its adaptably to RCS messaging. “What’s RCS messaging??” You say? Well, this is what Android users have been using in place of standard Text Messages. RCS standing for Rich Communication Services, is an encrypted way of sending high-quality messages through your data plan or wifi. Thats right! You’ll be able to finally receive high-quality pictures and videos from your Parents who refuse to switch to an iPhone and they will be able to send them to you! This also includes being able to send voice messages, attach emojis to messages and even seeing when an android user is typing to send a message.
With each upgrade, Apple is always making improvements to Siri. iOS 18 is looking to add more AI features to it allowing your personal assistant to have better communication skills with you and with more AI features being integrated, the possibilities seem almost endless as to what you could use Siri for.
iOS 18 will be showcased at the WWDC on June 10. Following the event, registered developers will be able to download the first beta build to try out the new features and start building their apps for the latest iOS version. A public beta is expected in July, with the final release likely scheduled for September 2024. Now it is Apple so be prepared for anything to happen but for the most part, they always deliver on their word. For the most part…
