River Oaks of Houston, TX is home to a plush bar and restaurant, Postscript HTX. The vibrant lounge is covered in hues of pink, and bouquets of flowers that give the perfect ambiance for anyone in their feminine era. PostScript HTX has a modern American menu with unique appetizers and main courses for dinner, brunch and dessert. Although they’ve been serving up great meals for only nearly a year in Houston, this isn’t the restaurant’s first rodeo. The idea behind the pink covered lounge stems from a Dallas restaurant founded in 2020 named XOXO Dining. XOXO Dining swings, phone booths, cupcake wheels had the city ready to throw on some pink to join the lavish dining experience with their friends, families and partners. As visitors raved over their champagne buttons, outstanding decor and delicious foods, soon they owners began to convey a new idea for an equally sophisticated location in Houston Tx. Plans have been in motion since early 2023. Now the collaborative work of managing partner Maria Lagios, and Gap Concept founders Veeral Rathod, and Obi Ibeto, have brough PostScript HTX to life in an upscale brick and mortar in the Upper Kirby District. Rathod spoke in the media about his excitement of expanding. “We love the safe, supportive and high energy environment that has occurred organically in Dallas at XOXO Dining Room, and we’re aiming for the same at Post Script HTX with an experience tailer made for this sophisticated site (location).”
PostScript’s menu features Modern American selections for brunch, dinner, and desserts. Bryan Caswell was set as the consulting chef. Previously the lead chef at places such as Hotel Icon, and Jackson Street BBQ, Caswell created unique dishes for visitors to enjoy. Two of the most popular menu items are their akaushi tomahawk ribeye steaks paired with caviar donuts with white chocolate crème fraiche for dessert. The mustard brulee short ribs are prepared well, all foods are appealingly plated. Guest have the option of having their fresh oysters raw, broiled, or fried with a sweet spicy sauce that compliments the garnishes on top. Architects Jeffery Abel of Abel Design Group who played a major role in designing the fine dining chain, Mastros, along with Erin Hicks designed the interior. The oval island bar and many of the walls are interestingly decorated with pink, red and brown oysters shells set in resin. The art along the walls are strong statement pieces of historical women in entertainment, that really adds to the pro-woman energy of the pink restaurant. Most tables spaces are covered by beautiful chandeliers and bouquets covering the ceiling. The outdoor seating is completely covered, keeping visitors safe in case of a rainy day during brunch. Many online reviews of PostScript HTX mention the bartenders and staff being inattentive. One might assume this could be an individualized issue possibly due to a busy night. However, that seemed to stand true as it was not very busy at the time of this review when those observations occurred again. The bartender promptly served everyone a glass of water upon arrival but never introduced themselves or asked for anyone’s order. Not the typical friendly, professional service typically experienced in top tier dining, but even though the staff was saltier than the oysters, it didn’t take away from the delicious food that was eventually served faster than expected. The restaurant has ample indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of sun for brunch and cozy lights in the evening during dinner. PostScript’s extensive drink menu has an impressive list of wines, champagnes, cocktails, and mocktails to choose from.
Some of the most popular desserts are the creme fraiche cheesecake with sour cherries and strawberry granita. When asked, the waitress noted their seven layer chocolate cake with tuaca cream and pomegranate is another all-time favorite repeatedly ordered on special occasions. There’s a dessert platter that serves cupcakes, meyer leon madeleines, chocolate truffles, pate de fruits, chocolate hazelnut crunch and assorted mignardise in a huge sharable size that’s enough to feed two to four people. There are options for private dining if guests would like to have a meeting or more privacy than what is offered on the dining room floor. The Monarch Room is a described as “a semi private glass-enclosed dining room that accommodates up to twelve guests. The room has floor to ceiling glass walls, lavish chandeliers, stunning marble top tables, and custom designed monarch butterfly artwork with direct access to the main dining room.” The second room is much larger, able to sit up to thirty guests with a special place to enjoy their visit with more privacy than Monarch. Their site describes it as the Vesper Martini as an stylish space meant for intimate occasions. “We have a larger dining room; if you like to impress your guest with style, The Vesper Room is the space for you. Paying homage to James Bond’s feature film, Casino Royale, this unique and creative space has its own private entrance, classic black and white photography, luxe wall coverings and a custom built in bar to enjoy our famous Vesper Martini.”
PostScript has everything the “girlies” would want in a fun yet sophisticated brunch or dinner. The ambiance is classy, and chic, full of Instagram worthy scenery and nice music that matches the restaurant’s elegant charm. The pink palace seats nearly four hundred guest but it is best to book a reservation in advance to ensure a smoother wait time during busy times. Reservations are required for groups larger than eight persons, and children under five years of age aren’t permitted. The dress code is pretty strict but not more than what you’d expect in a restaurant of this nature. Their site warns of not coming in wearing denim or anything “excessively casual, overly distressed, torn or baggy jeans.” Check their website for details before arriving. PostScript prefers guest don’t go too crazy with taking pictures and videos as it disturbs other’s trying to enjoy the environment. Self-parking is free, valet is available at the corner of PostScript HTX near Milk & Honey in the River Oaks shopping center.
