Here in the South, we have four seasons, but not the same four seasons as everyone else. We celebrate Crawfish Season, Festival Season, Hurricane Season, and Christmas. Crawfish Season is currently in full effect, and Festival Season is on the rise. So, ladies get your maxi dresses and fellas string up your Nike shorts, because 2024 is laced with music, sunshine, and vibes. Did you miss Coachella this year? Don’t worry, you still have time to catch the annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia or the 30th anniversary celebration of the Essence Festival of Music and Culture in New Orleans. We’ve listed below some of the top remaining urban music festivals of 2024, and the links to find out more information about their tickets, performers, vendors, dates, and locations.
Ok so now that you have your tickets, its time to pack. Dressing for an outdoor festival is not just about the look, but how the functionality of the outfit compliments the look. Once you have that decided, it also must adhere to the festival’s safety standards and dress code. Let’s start with the essentials. Most outdoor festivals have strict safety regulations requiring all bags to be clear and under a certain size. The good news is, that there are tons of ways to find a cute, fashionable, and size-approved crossbody bag, fanny pack, or small backpack for all the upcoming festivals. Remember what I said about music, sunshine, and vibes. Did I say sunshine?? You want to make sure that you have proper protection from the sun because the sun is going to SUN. Whether it’s sunglasses or hats (I’d recommend both), along with a travel-size sunscreen, and facial hydration spray. And you see those cute little fans everyone is carrying around these days? Go on ahead and grab you one too but pick a color that will match your outfit for fun. Because most festivals don’t allow you to bring in any outside food or drinks, although there will be plenty inside, it’s extremely important to make sure your skin is protected from the elements and hydrated as much as possible. Therefore, you should also pack a travel-size emergency first aid kit if you can. Be aware of the location of the festival because that too will affect your decision on an outfit. For instance, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is located at the Fairgrounds of New Orleans where they host horse races, so I wouldn’t recommend wearing open-toe shoes as there may be times you will be walking across large sandy patchy areas, and you know what sand turns to when it rains? MUD. So, keep those brand-new uncreased Jordans at home too. Pinterest and Amazon both have tons of festival must-have lists that can help you put together your look for the perfect practical summertime swag.
