Houstonians braved the weather and the last weekend of rodeo traffic to gather for another All Gas No Smoke car meet up. Although at this point it is a disservice to simply call it a car meet. Food trucks, a mobile video game truck, plenty of vendors, an area for kids to play, and more make up the day bringing out family and friends to meet at the event that is about to get back to its regular schedule.
“Y’all know this about to start happening again,” said Slim Thug in his familiar drawl. “Y’all got to come back out again next month and the month after that.”
While BeatKing was scheduled to perform at the event, transportation issues prevented the club god from attending. That didn’t stop Slim Thug, Killa Kyleon, Le$, Boston George, and Jon S from stopping by and putting on a show. Jon S went through a few songs of the new album, On The Go, Vol. 2, including his newest single with Slim Thug “Exxon”. He along with Boston George, who just had a recent appearance on the Donnie Houston Podcast, and Killa Kyleon’s freestyle flow were a big part of the show. They quickly got the crowd hyped before Slim Thug and Le$.
And while there is a concert as well as family friendly activities, the event still stays true to its foundation: enthusiasts coming out to show off their cars. Gas Gods hands out awards for some of the best vehicles that come out to the Bayou City Event Center lot but , award or not, people come out to admire the work put into each vehicle. From lifted trucks, to slabs, motorcycles, to high end performance luxury cars, there are so many different avenues of car culture that are represented.
“It’s nice to see it back,” said Alex Gomez as he starred up at one of the massive trucks nicknamed “The Monster”. “It wasn’t happening for a while so I was wondering when it was coming back. Its nice to just come out with the family and just chill for the Sunday.”
While the car meet took a brief hiatus over the past few months there are promises of a big return with dates already being announced for April 20th, May 5th, and June 16th. The date for April 20th will feature Vallejo, California rapper LaRussell. The MC formed his label, Good Compenny, in 2017 and has released hit singles like “Again” as well as the Hit-Boy produced songs “King Kong” and “Luxury”. This year alone he has put out Rent Due and linked up with DJ Gutta Butta to drop 3 Point Play.
