Bad Astronaut Brewing Co. is the latest landing pad for urban artists and enthusiasts in North Houston. Known for their craft beers and delicious food, there’s a growing community of art lovers gravitating here for an entertaining night of live art in Graffiti Wars. Upon arrival, you can tell this place is an art filled haven. The entire building is covered in stunning, massive murals full of brilliant colors.
Last month’s Graffiti War event featured two teams with three artists each. Team One consisted of artists Meenr, Franky Cardona, and Noke. This talented trio made a huge statement piece titled “HTown Troopers”. The beautifully illustrated Star Trek theme had a great blend of cool and warm color pallets. Directly on the other side of the wall was Team Two, consisting of artists Premo, Gabriel, and Jesse Deleon. This undeniably skilled team took a nostalgic approach, using the well-known Space Jam theme with a modern touch. Each team had one hour to fill a twenty foot wall with their designs. By the halfway mark of the show, it was easy to see each teams’ progress on their (pieces). Ultimately, Team Two went home the winners by audience vote. The finished projects were nothing less than amazing.
DJ Dazl kept heads nodding with old school mixes as the crowd sat back and watched the artists at work. The huge warehouse has areas for air hockey, foosball, and other activities for those who wanted to wander around and do their own thing during the live art show. Other notable artists showed up including local legend Deck WGF. Some of Deck’s most notable work includes murals in Houston’s busy downtown and midtown areas.
The great atmosphere and positive energy made this a memorable event. The next live art show at Bad Astronaut Brewing Co. will be May 17, 2024. Updates and tickets can be found directly on their website.
